Sandy Valley Cyber Coop Comes to an End

E-mail Print PDF
Ten years ago, a group of Sandy Valley citizens started the Sandy Valley Cyber Co-op Association (SVCCA) to provide local access to the internet because no service providers would provide a quality service and we had to pay for a toll or long distance call to gain access to the internet.

Because of it's non profit status the coop was very limited in it's ability to invest in newer state of the art systems. The current wireless system was plagued with problems which the coop did not have the resources to solve.

On August 14, 2008, the SVCCA Board of Directors voted unanimously to dissolve the co-op for the following reasons:

  1. There are many options available now for both dialup and high speed.

  2. Problems that cannot be diagnosed are plaguing the wireless system.

  3. The cost of upgrading the system is beyond the co-op’s reach.

The board decided to dissolve the co-op by December 31, 2008. However, because of the detriment this would provide for access to our local citizens, they worked an agreement out with Air Internet to continue to provide service and possibly invest and enhance the network.

Air-Internet in Pahrump will take over the service and will retain the sandyvalley.net domain name and the dial-in telephone number will not change. Dialup service will be transferred to Air-Internet and dialup rates will drop to our currrent monthly rate of 15.95. Wireless rates will remain unchanged.
